More toilet paper...

I am thinking that I must have a THING for toilet paper.

First there was the post on toilet paper in a tote bag on the back of my bathroom door.

Let's not forget the toilet paper in a trophy cup in my bathroom too.

Then there was the horrors of colored toilet paper.

For the smallest room in my house- it sure gets a lot of attention.

So my question of the day:

How do you put your toilet paper on the roll?
Over or under?

I personally think that it looks better over with a nice little fold (I love a good attention to detail).

What do you think?

Strangly enough as I was writing this post (while watching tv) a commerical came on from Cottonelle with this same poll!
Check out the poll HERE

Maybe I am on to something here.

Definitely folded over... but with two teenagers in the house, I don't have time for that pretty little fold! It drives me insane when people put the toilet paper on the other way!

I prefer it over as well. My children and my husband think I am insane every time time I comment that they put the TP on the wrong way! But what really cracks me up is that only on design blogs would we actually find other people who have an strong opinion about this.
Happy New Year!

I've always heard that the 'correct' way is over the top. I have no idea why but just have always done it that way. Females seem to care more than males for what its worth.
The little fold seems 'hotel-ey' to me but is a nice touch to detail. I think the most important thing is to just never run out!

I once read that men are more likely to put hand roll under where as women put it roll over.

I grew up in a southern household where it was always roll over with triangle. When guest were expected we had to change every roll in the house to be fresh and empty all the trashcans.

This gent does the same thing to the day

Grant,

I am a huge fan...the bathroom that links to your sight is one of my absolute favorites! Can't wait for the SRT interview. The paper definately goes over with the little fold!!! To illustrate this conviction, please visit my blog today if you have a moment...I did a post this morning of a master bath reno I did for a client. Double click on the picture showing the the door into the loo for the detail:) Thanks!

Over. No question.

And can we talk about printed paper towels? I hate them. Who wants chickens and spatulas printed on their paper towels. It drives me nuts when my better half buys anything but the plain white kind. I think it's his way of forcing me to do the shopping.

I am embarrassed to say we actually used these years ago
http://www.weddingsbydezign.com/index.php/bride-and-groom-toilet-paper-rolls-pack-of-2.html
at our wedding because it was under a tent, in the country, and and we had to have those horrid portapotties.

Definitely over with a fold....

Over, definitely - and I am with decorno on the paper towel thing too. Plain white.

Over and folded, absolutely!

Over.

Definitely over.

Definitely Under.

You see, when one is standing, one can then unravel a few sheets, then hold your wrist against the roll to secure while using your digits to pull off the sheets themselves.

It's a man thing! (It's called multi-tasking)

Over, and a pretty fold when company is coming! I loved this post and thought it a good time to write my first comment on your blog... I'm a reader from SF (probably almost neighbor - PacHeights) and if I could have a designer I'd chose you!

Definitely over (or, I would say, "away from the wall" as opposed to "close to the wall" to make it obvious). That rule is not universally followed in our house, though.

I like mine over the TOP!

Over, over, over!

And ditto on the paper towels. Why do they still make those ugly prints anyway?

Definitely over, the top. The fold is kind of aggressive though. As much as it looks great, who has time for that sort of thing? Moreover, ladies, how often are you in the bathroom and grab a square to fix eye makeup or blend blush? If we re-folded the toilet paper every time we did that, we would be re-folding for an eternity! Just mount it properly and make sure that you have enough paper when guests come over. Decorno--so with you on the paper towels.

Grant, over the holidays I thought of you every time I listened to Christmas music; now I'll think of you whenever I see those folds :)

It is funny that you have so many comments on this subject, does it say something? For me, never toilet paper holders in my houses, only baskets or beautiful containers full of rolls on the floor.

Over, over, over! Under is only good if children are in the house and try to unroll. What a fun post Mr. Gibson!

Over. And lately I insist on the toilet paper holders that load from the side - kids will actually change the roll! And I must admit to having purchased tacky halloween themed paper towels. Do I get a free pass if my son's birthday is halloween and I confess got caught up in the moment?!

Over. No fold.
Until we got the slide-on variety of toiletpaper holders in our house there was often a roll of paper on top of the toilet or on the floor. It seems that the other member of my household felt it was far too much work to change the roll at all. Long live slide-on toilet paper holders!
I agree with Decorno about the silly patterned paper towels.

A Craigslist buyer once asked to use our bathroom (he'd been stuck on the Pasadena freeway for an hour before arriving). I reluctantly agreed. When I went into the bathroom later, I saw that he had folded the toilet paper just like this! I felt like a real creep.

I am an under. I agree with Mr. Frencham that it has to do with gravity being your ally. That said, my real preference is that it be in an attractive container. My gentle beloved ripped out the toilet paper (and towel) holders from the wall. Lesson: never put these puppies up with drywall anchors. At least not in my house.
