Random Labor Day Musings….and a Giveaway

When I think of Labor Day the first thing that comes to my mind is going back to school.  It is the end of summer - almost the kick off to fall.   This summer, as with every summer, many clients have been busy with activities for their kids and exotic summer getaways.  After Labor Day, they’re usually ready to go full steam ahead on their homes.  I’m looking forward to keeping busy with some exciting client projects this fall.

On a side note: it amazes me that so many kids start school before Labor Day now.  Am I on the path to becoming one of “those people” that starts sentences with “when I was your age…”?  I will do my utmost to avoid doing so.

I haven’t had a giveaway for a while on the blog, so today is your lucky day.
This week this beautiful creation of flowers will be given to one selected reader.
All you have to do is leave a comment and tell me why these would be perfect for your house.  The contest will end on Friday, September 6th, 3pm.

I hope that I am not getting a reputation for using too manyfaux flowers.
This beautiful bunch of ranunculus was created by NDI (Natural Decorations, Inc.). I currently have them sitting on my desk and they look SO real!

Good luck and hope that you had a great Labor Day weekend!

Love ranunculus! Living on the East Coast, they aren't native here but I always buy some when I see them in the market in the spring. I would love to have some to brighten up my bedroom. Thanks for the opportunity and Happy September!

These would be perfect in my house, I have plants in every room, but there is no light in the hallway downstairs and plants go there to die. This faux bunch would liven things up considerably!

I need these in my house! There are plants everywhere except the dwonstairs hall--where there is no light and plants go to die. This faux bunch would be perfect!

These would be perfect for my house because I have a rambunctious cat that gets into any sort of plant material, including preserved boxwood. I'm hoping she'll avoid faux flowers! These would look beautiful on my mantel.

Hi Grant,

I live in the midwest, and we've had a drought all summer, and watering restrictions. I would love some flowers to decorate with since everything in our yard is dry and dead!

Thanks,
Sarah

This arrangement is lovely! It would be great in my home because we've just purchased a new sofa and the arrangement colors will complement the sofa so well! And we just cleaned out our garden for fall this past weekend, so now it's a bit bare and sad - some beautiful flowers (that will never fade) will bring some cheer back to the house.

My initial response to the gorgeous Ranunculus and color choices was "a fall preview in a vase." Color is a year-round gift and the shines as the hallmark of fall. Here in Louisiana the season is late to arrive, short to stay, and "leaves" us wanting more. This arrangement would be a lasting and lovely reminder of my favorite time of year.

Here's to fall!

I would love to have these! It is flooding here in Alabama and I am taking care of my 16 year old son who just had major reconstructive knee surgery on Friday after a football injury. He is depressed and I am sad for him and we need something to cheer us up!!

these would be perfect on the entry hall table of my new place! Entryways are the perfect place for 'imitation' flowers.
Agreed RE: school starting so early- when did I get 'old'?

First, ranunculus are my favorite! And as much as I love fresh flowers, they tend to not love me as much and wilt immediately. I've stopped taking it personally.

I am currently redecorating our guest room which will double as my escape/office/inspiration room. These would make the perfect addition and provide limitless happiness!

\\ I will be carrying an all white ranunculus bouquet wrapped w/burlap and twine for my upcoming wedding on 11/11. These would be a perfect replacement for the faux yellow and orange mums that currently have pride of place on my dining room table. Happy upcoming fall Grant!

Until I read further, I was wondering how you would get fresh flowers to me! These look so real and are a flower that I have yet to grow. I would place them on a table where I could enjoy them all day long! Thank you for having a give-away.

My husband and I just moved into a new house and I am about to have a baby so my weekly ritual of buying new flowers will have to be put on hold until time and budget permit. The flowers would add fabulous color to our new place and help fill the void of missing flowers when the baby arrives, not to mention she'll love the seeing the colors everyday.

These would be perfect for my house because I love orange! I'm about to paint one of my rooms sherwin williams osage orange. Thanks for a fun contest.

These would be perfect in my house because my "house" is actually an apartment in San Francisco that relies on tiny touches of beauty and color to make it homey. There isn't a ton a room here but there is a lot of light and so I try to use the light along with those little bits of color. This gorgeous ranunculus bouquet will sit on a table under a wall full of back and white photos of my family, which date back across a hundred years. It will be the perfect counterpoint.

I adore ranunculus! I could really use this gorgeous bouquet as my apartment has no outdoor area and we're in need of more plant life. I've reached capacity for succulents and the cool tones of the house could really use more complementary warm accents. Fresh flowers every week quickly becomes an expensive habit!

I love ranuculus. Their petals always remind me of thickly stacked crinkled silk. I usually am a fan of real flowers but my kitties would eat them and then get sick. Few things are as disturbing as stepping in pile of multicolored petals barfed upon the floor. Blech! Wishing you a wonderful week whether I win these or not. :)

These flowers are phenomenal! They would be perfect for my house because I love to accent with pops of warm color like the oranges in the bouquet. I adore ranunculous. These would probably live in my dining room 90% of the time, but I can also see moving them around the house every so often so that every room would be brightened a little bit!

Hi Grant --

Would you consider donating them to a nursing home -- maybe to a resident who doesn't have anyone showing them love, or for the home's lobby? I have no place in mind (I live in Atlanta), and I know that's not what you asked, but I love the idea of a secret act of beauty where it's not expected. Whoever the flowers go to, I'm sure they'll love them!

I LOVE ranunculus and love having fresh flowers and live plants in the house. Unfortunately, my three cats all think they need "salad" in their diets. Unless I want to constantly be stepping in cat barf, I am unable to keep any flowers/plants of any kind in my house. Faux is the only way to go. Plus, the colors wold look absolutely smashing in my navy blue dining room!
