In Memoriam: Albert Hadley

“Decorating is not about making stage sets, it's not about making pretty pictures for the magazines; it's really about creating a quality of life, a beauty that nourishes the soul.”

-Albert Hadley

On March 30th, the world bid adieu to the marvelous Albert Hadley. The renowned designer has been such an inspiration in my career through his wisdom, aesthetic, and design process.

Mr. Hadley had a magic touch in transforming a space to make it personal, functional, and beautiful. He had such a keen sense of how to place every item like an intricate jigsaw puzzle - only taking use of the necessary pieces. He truly mastered the marriage of classic and contemporary design.

I feel extraordinarily fortunate to have had the honor of meeting Mr. Hadley several years ago. He encouraged me to seek knowledge, truly understand my clients, and, most of all, to take risks. I hope that, in my small way, I can honor his legacy in my work.

It's easy to see who has made choices to live in a beautiful environment.

And, it's not about money.

I just started rereading the Sister Parish book by her daughter and granddaughter, and of course, it's filled bits by and about Albert Hadley. Their partnership was a rare and synergistic pairing.
He will be missed.
