Once upon a time- A trip to John Saladino's Villa

Once upon a time in a land far far away (also known as Santa Barbara)-there lived a very famous designer (John Saladino) that ruled the lands far and wide. This designer lived in a magical place that looked liked a castle- but was called The Villa to be exact. One day the very famous designer (John Saladino) invited a young- fair designer (this is where I enter the story) to visit his Villa. The two chatted for hours by the fireplace with homemade cookies and tea and toured the property while the eager young- fair designer listened and learned to every word that the very wise and very famous designer had to say. The whole day seemed like magic. Like it really didn't happen. If it were not for the trusty camera of the young - fair designer to share a few photos with the outside world- people would have laughed and thought that the young - fair designer was making the whole afternoon up. The lesson of the story is to always bring your camera along- as you never know what you will need to take photos of. As for the young- fair designer- he lived happily ever after- really never quite the same again- since going to the Villa and meeting the very famous designer was always a dream come true. The End.

Hello Grant,
I brought Tom up to see John and his home last year and we had such a great time with him...the foggy misty day you had there must have been incredible. Montecito is one special place!

First - the photographs are magical, that whispery fog, the surreal lighting - fabulous. Second -what a fantastic life altering experience, so happy for you.

It's a villa straight out of one's dreams, shrouded in a magical mist, a place where you spend an enchanted afternoon and then when you leave and turn around to look at it one last time, it's vanished, as if it never existed. Your photos are absolutely haunting. And the fog only heightens the sense of secrecy about the place. I will be thinking about this incredible dwelling all day...and beyond.

Grant, I love the way you very cleverly, told this story as a fairy tale. For that is what it was...Once upon a time...The photo's that went with it. Were just magical. Two wonderfully talented designers meet over tea. You also pointed out a great reminder to us all...Never leave home without your camera. ~maureen
