Julia and Grant

Most of you know that I just LOVE to cook.
I always have loved it and I find it strangly very relaxing and peaceful.
To me nothing is better at the end of the day to be a the ktichen and be creative.
I love throwing dinner parties and also just making dinner just for myself.
I am really excited for the upcoming movie Julie and Julia as I just adore Julia Child.
It is pretty much a secret that I keep from most people- but I am letting the cat out of the bag.
I had the great honor of meeting Julia Child when she moved from Boston to Santa Barbara.
Not only did I have the pleasure of meeting with her and sitting with her for a few hours talking about everything from movies to politics- but I had the SCARY pleasure of cooking for her too! I can't tell you how nervous I was cooking for her. My hands were shaking and I measured everything so perfectly- as I wanted it to be just perfect. The good news is that the lovely Julia Child ate every bite and even had seconds! It was a sucessful day. It is day that I will never forget.
I have this photo in a little silver frame on my kitchen window sill and I feel like when I cook- it is like Julia and I are together and she is watching over me.

Grant - I think you need to write a book about your awesome adventures (in design, travel and apparently cooking!). What an incredible experience that must've been.

And I cannot wait to see the movie, too.

What a lovely memory to have of such an inspiring woman! I have really enjoyed My Life in France and can't wait to see Julie and Julia! But more importantly, is there anyone you don't know or haven't met! Seriously!

My lemon tart that I made from the French Laundry cookbook is now what I named the "Julia tart"- it is most divine with a pinenut crust. So easy really to make with meyer lemons too!

Grant! That is such a sweet story. You are so lucky. When we first saw the picture we were like "wow is that really Julia Childs with Grant?" Cannot wait to see the movie too, we are going with 3 generations of Julia Child fans...Grandmother, mother and daughters! Thanks for this post! Hope your doing well after your chicken scare!

Her in laws in Maine were clients of the antique dealer I worked for & I had the pleasure of a quick hello from her when I delivered a console table with the boss...at the ripe old age of 14 years old. I was in awe & she was hulling strawberries.
How perfect!!!!

What a wonderful story! I know you cherish that memory. So in addition to a lemon tart what else did you cook for her???

Jennifer-Eggs with smoked salmon! It was a brunch.
It was kind of disaster as I was cooking on an electric range. (I mix my eggs with a dash of cream and I don't over beat them or move them around too much while scrambling them (you can just end up with a big mess- I like large pockets of eggs).
I was shaking the whole time while cooking- but at least she ate everything. It was interesting as she would not talk about food at all. I would ask questions and she would take it to a recent movie or a travel story. I think that she was done with food and talking about it...

That is so wonderful! Last night at the Dallas airport I bought her book - My Life in France. What a great read - and story. Looking forward to the movie too.
