NICE KNOCKERS!

NO NO - not THOSE!
Get your mind out of the gutter- this is a respectable and child friendly blog here!

It turns out that I might have yet another obsession!

LION DOOR KNOCKERS!

I took all of these photos in Venice- so many different styles- WOW!

I often get emails from people asking if I really take these photos myself- and the answer is YES I do- I took over 4,000 photos in 2 weeks in Venice.
Another question that I get is what kind of camera do you shoot with? I like my Canon Rebel EOS- as it is lightweight and easy to use.
If anyone out there works at Canon wants to send me a new lens- please do! I thought that there was a speck of dust inside the lens but it turns out that there is a small scratch that can't be fixed. Another something to add to my wish list. My financial planner/business manager has be on a very strict budget these days!

I have just added a SUBSCRIBE to this blog option as well- so if you would like to get an email when I post new things- feel free to fill it out to stay up to date with my adventures!

I love these! They're all the same, but a bit different.

And 4000 pix in two weeks? Did you download or do you have that much memory (on your camera!).

These lion heads are spectacular. But calling them knockers does sound odd. Maybe we should call them pulls or....why am I worrying about this when I have work to do?

Thanks, Grant. Love the blog.

Lovin the lions!!!! I can see you going from door to door, people strangely glancing over. I get that look when I'm shooting...I like unique perspectives.
All I keep thinking about is that poor woman freezing whilst the artist says..
"Thats right, no pull it down a bit further, I want both nipples showing." Lordy!!!
Thanks for the camera info, I need a new one & was going to email you about what you use.
Tripped & mine is now kaput!!!

These are spectacular. I have a lion door knocker and door bell that I love. I knew these were popular in England, but did not know they were so popular in Italy.

aw Grant, I was hoping we were going to have a lengthy post about the contrast between artistic nudity and possibly something more prurient . . lol.

but, even better - a festival of wonderful door accessories. Yay.

Great knockers! Coming from England this post really made me smile..... I was born in Durham in the North of England and the Cathedral there has a fabulous door knocker called the Sanctuary Knocker where crimnals could seek refuge. Although not a lion it's still a signifcant historial knocker and the cathedral itself is stunning.

Hi Grant

BRILLIANT.
And they are called knockers because you knock knock knock with them (you do not pull them, as they are only to knock with...they are not actually door handles in any way, serving only one function). You lift the handle and give it a sharp rap onto the metal below. Your host or his maid comes running.
A note--they are all lions because LIONS are the symbol of Venice.
Brilliant and good luck with the camera lens.

Grant,
You've really knocked yourself out with this post! I like door decor
it's such a classic. What a variety you've snapped up. Thanks for sharing.

There's nothing like a pair of knockers and on this side of the pond there is only one way to describe them...."Splendid"

I like the sixth one down.... he seems to me to mean business.

I had a lion's head at the front door of several houses and at times people used it instead of the bell. Wonderful pictures of "Leone di San Marco" as Diane said, a symbol of Venice.
