Sometimes picking a birthday present can be complicated.
What do you give to your favorite “Auntie” who is turning 70? Someone who has everything she needs in life and collections of everything – whether she needs it or not.
I wanted to pick something memorable that wouldn’t just collect dust on a shelf.
I remembered her mentioning that she has always wanted to take a sea plane around San Francisco - a dream for over 30 years. Come to think of it, she mentioned it years back and I thought that someday I would surprise her. Turning 70 seemed like a wonderful milestone to me. So yesterday afternoon I surprised her and we flew all across San Francisco and had the best time!
So if you are ever at a loss for a present for someone, then my advice is this: try to think of something that would be really perfect for them and something they have always wanted to do.
If you are in San Francisco, I highly suggest Seaplane Tours. They took care of every detail and even arranged champagne for the flight.
The late afternoon flight was perfect. Picture perfect. Here are some of my favorites photos that I look (with my iphone!)...

When I was five, we moved to Sitka Alaska. The only means to get there was via sea plane or boat, but no one explained to me how sea planes landed. Therefore, when we came arrowing down through the sky, landing on the water sending up a spray that covered the plane and the windows, I was sure we had crashed. Thanks for reminding me of one of my favorite adventures.
You know, all of these iphone pics could be enlarged and framed. They are fabulous. Isn't it crazy how good and easy our phone cameras are now? It helps that you have an eye. Thanks for sharing....k
Wonderful gift!
Did you use MonoPhix for the photos? Beautifully done!
Thanks!
I used Camerabag and used MONO as my filter.
What a VERY thoughtful nephew you are, my dear. Happy Birthday to your Auntie!
Why can't my iphone take such great pictures like this?

What a great gift! I'll bet it is something she will never forget, and neither will you. And maybe you could make some kind of collage of pictures from the trip, all in one frame, for her to look at and relive the trip?

Looks like such a memorable birthday for your aunt! I'd love to do that one day - SF by air is so stunning.
Hope you have a wonderful week Grant!
What a gift and I am betting she had the time of her life! This begs the question, how will you two celebrate her 80th!?
Nice shots Grant. Happy Valentine's Day to you and the doggies. In case I didn't say so, I enjoyed your talk at SFDC week before last. Shiree'
Why don't more interior designer blog?
I feel like you really show who you are with your blog.
It must be a great thing for a client to get to know you in a different way and about you and your interests before hiring you.
Keep up the good work!
These just can't be from your iphone. HOW? I can't ever get my iphone photos to look like this.
What great photos. Are you going to sell them?
