Pretty in pink
The Elle Decor Showhouse is just a few weeks away! I am in the final stretch of putting the space together.
The painters are doing their thing today. Carpeting goes in on Monday and then what might be the most exciting part of the space (or the most anticipated for me) the hand painted de Gournay wallpaper!
I did a custom color and really brightened up the background pink color as well as some of the flowers and the green of the leaves.
I am not sure if I will be able to sleep the night before it is ready to go it. It's just so beautiful!
I can't thank everyone at de Gournay enough for their kindness, our hundreds of emails and phone calls to make this happen.
Thought I would share some of the process and photos of the paper being made...
Can you believe that this is all painted by hand? No wonder it takes months for it to be made. Look at the details.
You can see in the lower right corner how I picked the pink color and gave them this color that I wanted to use as well as the bright green.
Here is how the elevation of the room is done. It's a lot of measuring and communication to make sure that everything matches up perfectly
These panels are done and ready to go in

it always blows me away -so incredibly beautiful. I'll email you pics of some that was recently done for a client.
Can't wait to see the final room!
That's my dream wallpaper, {sigh}. I wonder if they usually paint in a blazer and such a starched white cuff? Somehow I doubt it.
This will be stunning! It reminded me of the famous artist Michael Lin's hand painted walls (I have a post on Pomellato store in Milan done by him). I really wish I could be in San Francisco to admire your work, Grant, that room will be a "dream" come true.
I can't wait for the Elle Decor house to open, and I'm especially excited to lay my eyes on that gorgeous wallpaper!
Seriously - this is going to be SO wonderful. I can't wait to see what you've been able to create!
Cheers,
Scot
can't wait to see the finished product, grant.
I love de Gournay wallpaper. The ultimate wall covering! Can't wait to see the room finished.

Hmmm...now you have me wondering about the starched white cuff and blazer while working. Good eye!
Good Grief! I wouldn't want to be that paper hanger!
Thanks for sharing this process, Grant. I had no idea it was this involved. Proves that blogging can be educational!
pretty, pretty, pretty... I think pink is going to be my new black this spring. Be sure to drop by the DeGournay London office next time you're there and give my regards to Jaun DeBedout.

oh grant, I am posting these photos to my blog -- to say that this custom de gournay wallpaper is stunning doesn't even begin to cover it! I am in l-o-v-e. It is a not-so-secret dream of mine to one day have a de gournay-wallpapered room in my home : ) we'll see!
xoxo fallon
I also noticed the blazer & nicely starched shirt. I'd be willing to bet that the painter really did paint this paper in that blazer & crisply starched shirt. Of course this, in part, played a part in the exquisite outcome! LOL
I'm in love! The colors you chose are absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing your progress - I can't wait to see the final room!
wow! it is almost as complex as writing a torah!
i've seen artists work, but never anything like this project and the detail work you had to do.
pattern and colors are wonderful.
thanks for letting us see it. going to be 'killer'. m

Thank you for this post. I love your choice of wallpaper, and I hope I can have a custom colour for my own home.
Elle Decor is one of my favourite magazines.
Your room is going to be spectacular!
I adore the wallpaper and well....the whole scheme! Pink and zebra is a fantastic combo for a girl, little or big.
Am anticipating your big reveal!!!
Progress? Absolutely! It is definitely progressive to (finally) start seeing color out here in the blogosphere. You do it so well.......K
