JF Chen

Since I am sharing some of my favorite places to shop in Los Angeles from my latest trip, I can't go without mentioning the designer "secret" and "favorite" place to find a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

What a combination of eclectic pieces! Mid- century, Asian, old and new. You name it.
Joel Chen buys and collects THE MOST interesting pieces. It feels like a warehouse, but not really at all. More like a curated museum (where you can touch it all!) Everything is displayed mixed together in the most beautiful vignettes.

Michael Smith, Kelly Wearstler and Ralph Lauren each call this one of their favorite places to shop. Can you tell why?

JF Chen has to be one of my favorite stores around. I am like a kid in a giant candy store. I have been visiting JF Chen since I was teenager (growing up in Los Angeles) and always remember just being WOWED with every visit. A Los Angeles institution!

I remember being 16 or 17 years old and I would drive myself to the showroom and walk around for hours and ask questions on pieces and history and about how things were made. Maybe it was here that my love of interior design was formed?

Make sure to add this to your next visit to Los Angeles! (They are on 1stdibs.com as well, but it doesn't even begin to show the magnitude of what the showroom has) Or better yet- why not just fly to LA for the day and go for a visit, it is worth the price of the plane ticket, I promise!

This is my kind of candy store too, so much life and stories in each piece. Regarding my comment on FB for a suspended chair I was talking about the Egg chair by Pierantonio Bonacina, gorgeous for a teenager's room. Hope it helps.

The last table was parchment. It was so dreamy. Perfect for a clients home office. Crossing my fingers on that one!
