Montreal in black and white

Montreal.

What can I say? How can I describe my visit in just one word?
LOVE . That is the first word that comes to mind.
What an amazing city.
The architecture, the people, the amazing food. Everything about my trip made me happy and I can’t wait to plan another trip to visit again soon.

I have come to realize that I am a “BIG CITY PERSON”- and as much as I think that I will enjoy a few days in the country and getting away from it all, I really yearn for streets, action and noise. I love being able to walk places, jump in a taxi, take the subway, grab a cup of coffee and linger for hours at a restaurant.

I was most in love with the architecture in Montreal. Here are a few photos to share with you. I was amazed walking down streets that things looked familiar to me in a strange way. It was like walking down the streets of Paris, New York (sections of SoHo or Brooklyn) or even London. It was like I had been there many times before. Each area of fresh and just walking and exploring you really could see why Montreal is a favorite to so many. Everywhere you turned and around every corner was something new.

(On a side note to the beauty, if you are planning a trip to Montreal, know that Sunday and Mondays are not the best days to be there, as many stores, museums and restaurants are closed)

These could be pictures of buildings in NYC, London, Edinburgh, or even SF! Excellent!

Hi Grant,

I am a long time reader of your blog and adore your chic aesthetic. I have always wanted to go to Montreal and was wondering what you thought of the shopping, especially for antiques and home items?

Cheers,
Cait

Hi Cait-

I am actually going to follow up with a post on some great things to do- eating and shopping.
Great mid- century stores. Great antiques. The food was amazing too!
Also going to post on my hotel and how good
design is so important!
Stay tuned. Feel free to email any specific questions.

The photos are extraordinary Grant! I assume you took them with a real camera and not the iphone?? I would love to see them hanging together as a collection on a big white wall. Truly inspiring!

Hi, Grant,
I, too, am a long time reader and have coincidentally also gone to Montreal. But we are still here for two more days. After I saw your post last week and Meg's (Pigtown-Design) comment, I asked her for suggestions and she gave me some fabulous ones as well as a link to the long article with comments that Apartment Therapy did last year on design in Montreal. We have been all over the city and have loved every minute and mouthful. But, I would also love to hear what your must-do list contains. Any chance you could give me a short list of your favorite antique stores? We have been into many of the shops specializing in mid-century but haven't found a good antique store! LOVE the dining scene, especially sitting in the huge open windows of the sidewalk cafes for dinner. We can't do that at home in DC! Waaayyyy too hot. Such a delicious break from our brutal summer to come to Canada.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Anne

Your photos could be easily swapped for my photos of SF! I say: some buildings just make me want to take a bite out of them because they are so luscious--that is the feeling I get when surrounded by all of that beauty ;)

Now I want to book a flight to Montreal asap! Hmmm...
