Kitchen project update 1

So I mentioned a week ago that we had started on an exciting project on a new kitchen project in SF. I have received a lot of emails from people out there wanting to know more and see more- so I have decided to share this adventure.
It is a wonderful house designed by Julia Morgan and we are working on the new kitchen. It is going to be a traditional kitchen with pretty clean lines- touches of being modern- with the hardware on the cabinets and stainless steel appliances. It is about 300 square feet of space. Our office does a lot of kitchen and bathroom design and we are working with our favorite contractor on the project who is also building all of the cabinets as well for the project (all custom made and hand sprayed cabinets).

We started off with one design and since the past week my office and I have totally re-designed the whole space as once the space was gutted the client and I decided that we wanted to make their dream kitchen instead of just a remodel. So now everything is moving around and it should be fabulous. We are now doing a center island as well as a custom banquet. Today we decided that should replace the French doors and make them even taller to allow more light to come into the space. We are also going to replace all of the wood flooring with oak flooring to match the rest of the house and stick with the Julia Morgan history.

All of the appliances are picked and and we have been shopping for the marble counter tops (Sara- my senior designer at my office- who is the lead on all of our kitchen and bathroom projects- is in the photo looking to make sure that there are no cracks or flaws- we like to be super careful with these details)
and are busy selecting the hardware as well.

I will try to keep updating with more photos as we progress. Our estimate is 3 months for the project- so stay tuned!

Grant,

Thanks for "hearing" what your bloggers want more of. I am enjoying the photos and being a tag along is fun.

Happy to hear that you are busy too!

It looks very promising! I am going to have to look up Julia Morgan given AD's reaction.

I was just reading one of Bunny Williams' books, and she expressed a preference for white oak over red oak. Do you know which type of flooring you are using?
